Applications submission deadline: 31st July, 2016


As you prepare to apply for the LoS Awards 2016, make sure you are eligible to enter: 
  1. You MUST be an enrolled student in a university or college /recent graduate (less than 1year) from the East Africa Community (EAC)

  2. Project MUST be based on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

  3. Individuals can apply and if in a group, one of the founding members of the project can apply for the Prize money.

  4. Project team should have gender balance (have both male and female in the team)

  5. Academia-industry partnership – team up with industry or academia to provide with real-life challenges/solutions

  6. Projects that have won awards or recognition in other Innovation Challenges at the time of submission are not eligible

The following will be of added advantage to the submitted innovative Projects/Research:
  • Products/services that benefit women

  • Diverse skills of team members( from different fields)

  • Create a realistic business model that proves solution has market potential

  • Integrate technology – social media, ICT, engineering

  • Promote green economy

Judging Criteria

Innovative Projects/Research will be judged based on:

  1. Social impact

  2. Business potential

  3. Most innovative

  4. Authenticity of the idea

  5. Sustainability of the project/innovation / research model


Important Dates for you to keep in mind:

Start of project Submission - 1st May, 2016
End of project submission - 31st July, 2016
Notification of selected projects -30th September, 2016
LoS Awards ceremony - November, 2016

N.B: Teams will run blogs about issues in the four categories three months to the awards.
           Female STEM students are highly encouraged to submit their innovations/projects

The LoS Awards 2016 will take place Nov. 3rd, 2016 at the Goethe-Institut Nairobi.
